This page contains links to the home pages of the Road Trip Luthiers and participants, without whom, this site would have no reason to exist! I've also included links to my favorite guitar forums (which is where you'll find most of the full reviews of these wonderful guitars) as well as a few other cool guitar-related sites.

Road Trip Luthiers

  • Woolson Soundcraft - Paul Woolson's shop is based out of Madison, Wisconsin where he works independently building quality hand-crafted guitars. Paul has been building professionally since 2001 and uses many unique and innovative techniques to build custom guitars with a signature tone that's all their own. Paul's Double-Top Road Trip Guitar is the one that got this website started.
  • McKnight Guitars - Tim McKnight founded McKnight Guitars in 1992. He previously honed his craft over many years of repairing instruments built by others. Tim has studied with world renowned luthier Ervin Somogy and openly shares his knowledge of lutherie with others on multiple guitar forums. Tim's wife, Mary, handles the PR side of things and also designs many of the spec guitars that Tim builds, such as The Diamond. Their shop is located in Morral, Ohio.

Road Trip Participants

  • Larry Pattis - Larry plays melodic, heartfelt, original compositions that he has written for steel string guitar.
  • Derek Coombs - After playing classical guitar for over 35 years, Derek has switched to playing steel string guitars and composes his own music in the fingerstyle tradition.
  • David Hilyard - David plays both steel string and classical guitars and has been playing since the age of 13.
  • Doug Young - Doug is an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist and recording guru. He's written a multitude of articles for Acoustic Guitar Magazine and oher publications.
  • Fran Guidry - Fran is an avid slack key guitarist and convert to the joys of Hawaiian music. He maintains a weblog with interesting reviews and articles and also has a site devoted to slack key music.
  • Alan Porton - Alan tries to convince people that he can't play the guitar, but we know better! Maybe one day Alan will put up a website. Until then, he can be found on the APM Forums.
  • Larry Jacobsen - Larry could string up a tin can and a stick and make it sound beautiful. He has his own signature tone that comes through regardless of what guitar he's playing and boy can he play!
  • Edward Hamlin - Edward has been playing guitar since 1972. Though he's not a professional musician, he writes and plays his own fingerstyle compositions that are as good, if not better that anything you'll hear by a "professional".

Guitar-Related Forums

  • Acoustic Player Magazine - A great community of guitarists and guitar enthusiasts. Players of all skill levels hang out here to talk about guitars and music, share their own recordings, and discuss nail grooming tips. Okay, that last one was a joke... mostly!
  • Acoustic Guitar Forums - Another great guitar community with many of the same folks from the APM forums. There's a dedicated Taylor forum here for you Taylor fans!

Other Cool Sites

  • Little Brother Blues - There's TONS of cool stuff on Little Brother's website. Lessons, reviews, articles, jam photos, instruments for sale... LB has it all!
